Improving Clinical Outcomes with Clear Aligners: Evidence, Strategies and Clinical Insights

Clear aligner therapy has significantly expanded the scope of orthodontic treatment, but clinical success still depends on accurate diagnosis, sound biomechanical principles, and appropriate treatment planning. Although digital technologies continue to evolve, certain tooth movements remain less predictable and often require specific clinical strategies to improve treatment outcomes. This lecture will provide an evidence-based overview of the main factors influencing the predictability of clear aligner therapy. Current scientific evidence will be combined with clinical experience and illustrative case reports to discuss biomechanics, attachment design, auxiliaries, materials,aligner designs, staging protocols, and approaches to managing challenging tooth movements. Practical recommendations will be highlighted throughout the presentation, enabling clinicians to better understand the strengths and limitations of aligner therapy and to optimize treatment outcomes in everyday clinical practice.
