The Italian Orthodontic Sector: Evidence, Trends and Scenarios

Italian orthodontics is going through a phase of structural transformation that no single piece of research, taken in isolation, is able to capture in full. This presentation brings together the findings of a survey conducted on a representative sample of SIDO members with evidence from the demand side (research on families, parents and adolescents) and with an analysis of the GP and DSO channels, which are increasingly present in the orthodontic arena. The picture that emerges is one of a market in motion on several fronts. Demographic and cultural changes now underway are radically reshaping demand. On the professional side, the change is equally profound. An imminent and far-reaching generational handover, not merely one of age, but of paradigm, will redefine practice models, the relationship with patients and expectations of the profession. Against this backdrop, artificial intelligence is entering orthodontics quietly but steadily: the data show adoption that is still limited, but a growing willingness that points to a deeper transformation in the years ahead. This paper stems from the conviction that knowing your own market is the essential prerequisite for practicing and making decisions with full awareness.
