Professor Mauro Farella is the Head of Orthodontics at the University of Otago, where he leads the postgraduate programme in Orthodontics and directs the Orthodontics and Craniofacial Research Programme at the Sir John Walsh Research Institute. He is a registered specialist orthodontist in New Zealand and Italy. His research spans clinical orthodontics, craniofacial growth, biomechanics, temporomandibular disorders, bruxism, clear aligners, orofacial muscle physiology, and digital technologies. Professor Farella has published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers and has delivered lectures in over 25 countries. His contributions have been recognised through distinctions, including the IADR Alan Docking Award, the Sir John Walsh Award, and the University of Otago Research Supervisor Award. He serves as Associate Editor of Orthodontics & Craniofacial Research and on the editorial boards of several journals. He also maintains a specialist orthodontic private practice in Dunedin.
