Abstract

Palatal Skeletal Anchorage with Surgical Guides: Clinical Foundations and Software Interface

The aim of this course is to provide participants with the knowledge required to design a surgical guide for the placement of palatal miniscrews using BluSkyPlan, a freely available software, used under a free license. The first part of the course will cover the fundamental aspects of palatal skeletal anchorage as they relate to the use of surgical guides, including: planning TAD positioning in relation to biomechanical requirements, whether or not site preparation is necessary, and the methods for taking impressions and recording the position of palatal TADs. The software interface will also be presented and its core functions explained. In the second part, participants — supported by tutors and using their own personal computer (see hardware requirements) — will install BluSkyPlan and design a surgical guide based on a real clinical case, selecting their preferred brand of palatal miniscrews and exporting the STL file of the surgical guide at the end of the workflow. By the end of the course, each participant will have acquired a complete digital workflow that can be immediately applied in their clinical practice.
